The annual ‘New Directions Conference’ is the flagship event of the Sociology subject area at the University of Edinburgh. It is an opportunity to engage with emerging themes and issues in the discipline, to discover what research is being done in the department, and to explore new ideas with fellow students and staff. This year’s conference (19-20 April 2018) will include presentations from MRes students, first-year PhD students, and advanced PhD students about their work in progress.
The keynote speaker is Professor Giselinde Kuipers (University of Amsterdam). The programme also features several thematic panels composed of PG students and staff members.

‘Digital Sociology’ highlights include the section entitled: ‘The Arts in Digital Society’ which will take place on Friday, April 20th at 1:15pm.
